County Honored for Modernizing Bee-Line Bus System With 116 New Hybrid-Electric Buses

Westchester County was honored by the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) at its 2026 Westchester Cocktail Party, for its continued investment in cleaner public transportation and efforts to modernize the Bee-Line Bus System. Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins accepted the recognition at the event, held at HudCo in Dobbs Ferry.

The honor comes following the County’s September announcement of 116 new hybrid-electric buses that will replace the remaining diesel-powered buses in the Bee-Line fleet. The new vehicles represent a major step in the County’s efforts to reduce emissions and provide residents with a more reliable and environmentally friendly public transportation system.

Jenkins said: “We are grateful to the New York League of Conservation Voters for recognizing the work we’re doing to make Westchester a cleaner and healthier place to live. Our investment in 116 new hybrid-electric buses reflects our commitment to improving the services residents depend on while reducing our impact on the environment. This is an important achievement for our County, and I want to thank Liberty Lines, STV and everyone who helped make it possible.”

Westchester County Director of Energy Conservation and Sustainability Pete L. McCartt said: “This is yet another example of our commitment to sustainable transportation. With the exorbitant and increasingly unpredictable costs of diesel fuel, these highly fuel-efficient electric hybrid buses simply make good economic sense. Westchester County is leading the way in the electrification of our entire fleet, not just our buses. In addition, we are expanding EV charging infrastructure in County parking facilities while also helping municipalities bring public EV charging stations to their streets and parking lots.  Together, these initiatives demonstrate our commitment to a more sustainable and energy-efficient transportation future.”

New York League of Conservation Voters President Julie Tighe said: “The New York League of Conservation Voters is proud to honor Westchester County at our 2026 Westchester Cocktail Party, and we applaud County Executive Ken Jenkins for his strong environmental leadership. Achieving our climate goals and improving public health requires investing in cleaner, more sustainable transportation, and Westchester County, in partnership with Liberty Lines Transportation and STV, is helping lead the way. By modernizing and electrifying the Bee-Line bus fleet, this partnership is reducing emissions, improving air quality, and building a cleaner transportation future for Westchester residents.”

Westchester County was honored alongside Liberty Lines and STV, longtime partners in the County’s Bee-Line fleet modernization efforts. The NYLCV Westchester Cocktail Party recognizes organizations and leaders making contributions to environmental protection and sustainability throughout the region.

The new hybrid-electric buses build on Westchester County’s ongoing investments in public transportation and its commitment to sustainability and protecting residents' health and well-being.
